Who is Christ?

Political parties and religions propagate their doctrines and the biographies of their founders through books and the Internet; they try to present their principles in bright colors and exciting propaganda.

The Son of Mary stands gently beside this propaganda. He introduces himself to whoever desires to know him. The title ”Christ” appears 569 times in the New Testament. The Son of Mary himself announced his identity saying:

”The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,

because He has anointed Me

to preach the gospel to the poor;

he has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives

and recovery of sight to the blind,

to set at liberty those who are oppressed;

to proclaim

the acceptable year of the LORD.”

(Luke 4:18-19)

Christ, the Anointed One, disclosed his secret by uttering out the above prophecy revealed to the prophet Isaiah 700 years before Christ’s birth (Isaiah 61:1,2).

The Son of Mary was born of the Spirit of the Lord. In addition, God sent the fullness of his Holy Spirit upon Christ to work in full harmony with him and accomplish the will of God. He unfailingly lived sinless, pure and holy.

Christ testified that he is ”the Anointed one with the Spirit of the Lord”. In the Old Testament kings, high priests and prophets were anointed with holy oil as a symbol of being equipped with God’s power and wisdom to accomplish their duties. This sign of anointing with holy oil in the Old Testament was but a shadow of what was to be revealed in Christ. He was anointed with the Holy Spirit to fulfill all his predicted duties as the everlasting King (Daniel 7:13-14), the final High Priest (Psalms 110:4), the promised Prophet (Deuteronomy 18:15), the Intercessor for sinners (Isaiah 53), and the incarnate Word of God (Isaiah 61:1-2). The title ”Christ” is not the name of the Son of Mary, but explains his ministry, designed and appointed by God.

For what reason Christ was sent?

The creator sent Christ and empowered him with the Holy Spirit to preach to the poor, and to offer them the good news of redemption; that is they would be freed from God’s wrath and be justified in the Day of Judgment.

God did not prefer the great, the rich, the clever, the scholars or the notable ones, but first turned in love and compassion to the little ones, the unsuccessful, sinners, the weak, the poor and the helpless. The Almighty sent his anointed Christ to the wretches and the outcasts to offer them hope, spiritual power and eternal life on receiving the Holy Spirit from him.

Christ called his message ”the Gospel” – the moving good news. It is a message that brings all who believe in him into the family of God, granting them a home in heaven. The Gospel overcomes the world’s hatred. The words of Christ drive out lying, trickery, and deceit and resist impurity and adultery. God’s spirit dwells in those who hear and accept the Gospel and abide in his message. The Gospel is God’s gift to you! He who does not read or accept this unique offer from Christ remains poor, hopeless and far from fellowship with the living God.

Christ declared that he was sent by God to those who are broken-hearted owing to their worries and sins. Christ frees those who are bound by their sins under the authority of Satan. He raises sinners who died spiritually and gives them life in purity and uprightness. Christ did not teach vain messages words, but lived out what he said. Anyone who reads of his miracles in the Gospel and in the Qur’an, can recognize that the Son of Mary is the true Christ, anointed with the power of God’s love. He lies not dead in the grave – he lives. He promised his followers for their encouragement that his spiritual power will be realized in them.

Are you anointed with the Holy Spirit?

Christ was not selfish. He did not keep the anointing of the Holy Spirit and his divine power for himself. He offered the Holy Spirit to the downcast who seek for  God's peace in their hearts, that they may also be anointed with the spirit of grace and filled with the love of God. Ask yourself, ”Should I remain an unclean person bound by my sin? Or do I wish to be purified and justified by Christ and anointed with his Holy Spirit?”. He said,

”The one who comes to Me

I will by no means cast out”

(John 6:37);

”He who believes in Me has everlasting life”

(John 6:35,47; 8:12; 10:27-28; 11:25-26);

”He who trusts me I dwell in him”.

Dear reader,

If you have recognized the depth of these divine promises, open your heart to Christ, the Anointed One, that he may anoint you with his Holy Spirit too.

Christ declared the secret of this divine anointing – his coming to bring the acceptable year of the Lord. In the Shari'a of Moses, we read that after fifty years bondage all slaves should be freed and their previous possessions should be returned to them (Leviticus 25:10).

This points to a greater spiritual deliverance. Christ wants to deliver the slaves of sin from their impurity and transgressions to bring them back to God waiting for them. Christ has the right and the power to so deliver, thanks to his substitutionary atonement for our sin. In the past, God gave the law through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ (John 1:17). Since Christ has atoned for the sin of the world, anyone can turn to God without any barrier or hindrance. Anyone who turns to Christ will receive anointing with his Holy Spirit as a pledge of his inheritance in the kingdom of God. They will not see God as an eternal Judge in the Day of Judgment. He will appear to them as a merciful Father waiting for them and receiving them with joy and gladness.

How I knew Christ

I lived as a prisoner of sin and a slave to the delights of my senses. I kept seeking something that might satisfy my sensual needs, give me comfort and gladness and fill my heart with love, but to no avail. I experienced moments of joy on pleasant occasions, but such pleasant moments would soon vanish and the feeling of emptiness would return. I continued in this way of life until I heard about Jesus Christ, the Savior who delivers us from troubles. I began to seek  him, and a friend of mine told me about the work that the Son of Mary had done for the blessing of humanity. He told me about how Jesus could change the course of my life.

Christ died for me to give me eternal life that I might lead a life of everlasting joy and happiness. Yet in order to receive happiness, I knew that I must submit my heart to him so that he could fill it with love and joy. Then I decided to pray and ask Christ, Son of Mary, to enter in and take my life. He actually entered and began his saving work in me. Now I live with everlasting joy and happiness. In spite of persecution, I do not feel fear or worry, for he cares for me and satisfies my needs. I invite you, dear reader, to take this step and ask Christ to enter your heart too, so that you may have a life of eternal joy and peace in midst of all the troubles around you.

Prayer

Most Gracious and Merciful God, You are the spiritual Father to all who repent. We thank you for sending Christ, the Anointed One, into our impure world. We are not worthy to approach Christ or to receive your pure Spirit, for we are all sinners. Yet, you are blessing the poor in spirit. You accepted Christ’s atonement; therefore, I worship you and ask you to anoint me also with your Holy Spirit that I may be changed and become humble, pure, immortal, merciful, holy and full of love as Christ is. Amen.
